The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is the governing body of international ice hockey. The IIHF features 83 member associations, each of which is the national governing body of the sport in its nation. Besides controlling the international rulebook, processing international player transfers, and dictating officiating guidelines, the IIHF runs numerous development programs designed to bring hockey to a broader population. From its headquarters in Zurich, the IIHF organizes in cooperation with its 27 staff members more than 25 international tournaments and competitions annually.

In order to temporary support our Legal team, we are looking for a dedicated and passionate:

Project Manager « IIHF Legislation » (f/m/d)

 
Reporting to the Legal Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for comprehensively reviewing and redrafting the IIHF’s main legislative documents, with the goal to create an IIHF Legal Handbook. 

The IIHF would like this position to January 2023 for the period till August 2023 in an 8-month contract. 

In this exciting role, based at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Headquarters in Zurich, you will be part of a unique project launched by the IIHF Legal Department to improve, re-structure and re-design the body of IIHF legislative documentation. You will be trusted with the responsibility to lead this project and to collaborate with the various IIHF departments to seek a shared outcome for this project. In addition, you will be in charge of the presentation of the project conclusions to the IIHF Member National Associations. 

Key tasks

  • Analyzing the current body of IIHF legal documents 
  • Identifying potential areas for improvement
  • Evaluating the structure and content of IIHF legal documents in cooperation with the respective IIHF departments
  • Suggesting methods to increase user friendliness of the IIHF legal documents to the IIHF departments
  • Re-drafting of the IIHF legal documents to improve readability and remedy inconsistencies
  • Re-structuring IIHF legal documents to improve usability
  • Creating a recognizable design for the IIHF legal documents in coordination with the IIHF Marketing Department
  • Transforming the implemented changes into a presentation for the IIHF departments 
  • Presenting the new structure of the IIHF legal documents to the IIHF Congress
  • Collecting and analyzing the feedback from the IIHF Member National Association on the new structure and incorporating such 

Competencies
 
  • Law degree with strong academic credentials
  • Fluent in English and excellent writing skills in English (preferably a native English speaker) 
  • Experience between in international organization designing and implementing legal documents is an asset
  • Ability to draft legal documents 
  • Ability to conduct analysis and draw out conclusions independently
  • Ability to work unsupervised and precise
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Skilled in project planning, organizing, and execution
  • Proficient in Word / PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of sports, particularly ice hockey, an asset

Communications Manager (f/m/d)

 
Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Director, this role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sports communications specialist to make a contribution to the overall IIHF communication strategy, manage events and drive awareness in a complex but exciting digital era. As Communications Manager, you will have in-depth communications experience and a passion for ice hockey. You will work closely with IIHF Member National Associations, members of the media, internal departments, and content teams to ensure that IIHF delivers a clear, compelling and consistent message in all external communications. You will be competent working with both traditional and new media platforms, and have a deep professional understanding of the ever-evolving digital and social media landscape.

The IIHF would like this position to start as soon as possible. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Director to develop and execute an overall communications strategy to reach IIHF’s strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for all written communications, from writing press releases, speeches, written statements, and briefings to proactive and reactive communications throughout the season in English, the official language of IIHF
  • Act as direct contact to media, coordinating requests and interviews
  • Management of media operations and media accreditation process at IIHF tournaments
  • Liaison to host organizing committees and assisting them with media services and media accreditation for IIHF World Championships, Olympic Games, and Youth Olympic Games
  • Responsible for content, design, creation and production of all internal and external IIHF publications
  • Work with the Digital Content Team to provide topics for online editorial and social media coverage for IIHF.com of top-level events
  • Create editorial guidelines for IIHF tournaments in regards to IIHF website, social media, photography and video content
  • Monitor media coverage for story trends and reputational impacts, both positive and negative
  • Work with IIHF departments to development editorial content to promote ice hockey topics
  • Develop and execute communications measures with major stakeholders, i.e. federations, clubs, leagues
  • Provide event support in IIHF-governed events

Secondary Responsibilities
 
  • Assist in preparing and controlling respective budgets
  • Support staff in assigned project work if necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Director 

Skills and Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or similar
  • Absolute requirement is minimum 8-10 years of successful career in journalism and/or communications role in an international ice hockey environment of which a minimum of five years must have been in North American ice hockey
  • Media training and crisis communication experience an asset
  • 100% fluent English speaking/writing ability is a requirement as all press and written communications must be in the IIHF official language
  • German or further languages also advantageous
  • Previous experience producing content and handling media relations for ice hockey events
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Able to plan and execute multiple tasks in an accurate, efficient and reliable way
  • Ability to work under pressure in an event and team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, video-editing software 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • International travel required – participation at Top Division events
  • Expect to be reachable if needed at various times for specific communication topics

IIHF Data Manager (m/w/d)

 
Reporting to the IIHF Technology Director, the Data Manager will oversee the development and use of data systems. The Data Manager will develop efficient ways to organize, store and analyze data with attention to security and confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures. They will also be tech-savvy and possess excellent troubleshooting skills. They are responsible for analyzing and deriving insights from data, for improving and streamlining data systems, and driving innovation. The successful candidate should have a proven track record in data management, leadership and information technology systems and tools. A strong background in IT, business and mathematics is advantageous.

The goal is to ensure that information is properly collected, professionally analyzed, and flows timely and securely to both internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management
  • Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management, external stakeholders etc.
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to company standards
  • Assist with reports and data extraction when needed
  • Monitor and analyze information and data systems to discover ways of enhancing them (new technologies, upgrades etc.)
  • Ensure digital databases and archives are protected from security breaches and data losses

Skills
 
  • Data Management - Thorough understanding of the principles of data management and administration
  • IT Skills – Data Manager should be familiar with modern databases and IT systems and how they work
  • Analytical Skills - Due to the importance of data analysis in their everyday duties, the Data Manager needs to be proficient at digesting and analyzing large amounts of data
  • Problem Solving Skills - The Data Manager must be able to tackle problems under pressure
  • Communication Skills – excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
