The IIHF has issued a one-year suspension to Team Canada forward Brandon Kozun.

The suspension is due to an Anti-Doping Rule Violation which occurred prior to the start of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.

Kozun’s suspension comes as a result of a violation of WADA Code Article 2.3 – Failure to Submit to Sample Collection. Kozun’s ADRV occurred on 12 December 2017 during an out-of-competition test prior to the Channel One Cup in Moscow, Russia.

Kozun was initially cleared of an ADRV by the IIHF Disciplinary Board, but the decision was appealed by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Following a settlement agreed upon between Kozun, WADA, and the IIHF, Kozun accepted a one-year suspension.

The suspension was backdated to 15 March, 2018, meaning that Kozun is now eligible to return to hockey.
