The Austrian Ice Hockey Association (ÖEHV) has extended the contract with Roger Bader, who will continue to serve as head coach of the men’s national team and as sports director for the organization, until June 2022.

“Roger Bader has done excellent work within the ÖEHV for several years. He’s very professional, which we can currently see in his daily work at the training camps. With the contract extension we rely on continuity and follow big goals,” said ÖEHV President Klaus Hartmann.

The Austrian men’s national team was relegated at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship but will play exhibition games against top-division nations Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy this spring as well as a tournament in Slovenia.

The big goal is getting back to the top level both for the Olympics and the World Championship.

From 26 to 29 August Austria will play in the Final Olympic Qualification group just across the border in Bratislava against host Slovakia, Belarus and Poland. The winner qualifies for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China.

In May 2022 Austria will play for promotion at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A against France, Korea, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania.

“The trust shown by the board honours me. It’s great fun to work with the players of the national team and to reach our goals together. The next season will be a big challenge for all of us. We are already working hard to be able to tackle our tasks successfully,” said Swiss-born Bader, who will enter his sixth season with the Austrian men’s national team.
