Mohawk turn
Objective: Improves balance, body weight transition and opens up the hips 

Points of emphasis: 
  • Start the exercise by skating forward around the circle 
  • Stride onto the inside edge of the outside skate 
  • Bring the inside shoulder back 
  • Open the hips to face the circle’s centre dot 
  • Rotate the inside skate back 180° and shift the weight onto this skate’s inside edge 
  • The feet should now be shoulder width apart with the heels pointing towards each other 
  • Bend the knee and ankle to load the back leg 
  • Push on the back leg and stride on the front skate 
  • Keep the shoulders and hips facing the circle’s centre dot  
  • Level hips, deep knee bend and ankle bend are most important keys of emphasize for execution of the movement
