Throughout February 2022, the IIHF will take the first steps in the development of a new strategic plan for global ice hockey.

In order to find new and innovative ways to serve ice hockey fans as well as its 82 Member National Associations, create a comprehensive plan of action for ice hockey development, and stay ahead of a constantly evolving sportive landscape, the IIHF is taking the first steps towards building a new framework to tackle these and other challenges in ice hockey.

Stakeholders around the world, including representatives from all Member National Federations, clubs, leagues and players will be asked to provide input via an online survey received by e-mail. Fans will also have a chance to share their ideas via an open survey available on IIHF.com.

Last November during its first IIHF Council meeting, the new leadership of the IIHF committed to the development of a Strategic Plan for 2022-2026 that would be created in cooperation with the Member National Associations.

The strategy will connect the global ice hockey community like never before. The plan’s concept and development will provide an opportunity for the IIHF and all of its members and stakeholders to jointly focus on what is important for the sport moving forward..

As a first step, an online survey will be sent out via e-mail to stakeholders to seek feedback from around the world. An open survey will also be available beginning of February on the IIHF website for the public to provide input.

IIHF President Luc Tardif has personally called upon the global ice hockey community for their support, stating:

“We need everyone’s input. This strategy will be the foundation for our future. The foundation for making our sport and our organization stronger than it has ever been before. Responding to the survey is the first step in making sure you contribute to this future. What better time than when the world’s eyes are upon us during the Olympic Winter Games to be reminded of the value of our sport and to think about what our priorities are for the future? Take the time to fill in the survey, whether you receive it personally via e-mail or online on the IIHF website.”

The online, anonymous survey will run throughout the month of February. The results of the survey will be presented at the 2022 IIHF Annual Congress in May.
