The IIHF would like to congratulate Jae Youl Kim who has been elected as the new President of the Winter Olympic Federations (WOF), continuing a glittering career in support of sports on snow and ice and their governance.
The ISU President and IOC Executive Board Member was sworn in by acclamation at a WOF meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, that also re-confirmed Colin Grahamslaw (World Curling) as Secretary General of the organization and Max Cobb (International Biathlon Union) as its Treasurer. Furthermore, the WOF Council was confirmed as the Presidents of the seven full members of WOF.
Jae Youl Kim said: “Sport on snow and ice has a very special character and I look forward to working with all Winter Olympic Federations members to boost its standing in the modern world. It is an honour and a privilege to serve WOF as President and I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders for our mutual benefit. I would also like to pay tribute to the work of my predecessor, Ivo Ferriani, who achieved so much during his tenure as President.”
The WOF members approved a new strategy for the organization rooted in collaboration and seeking efficiencies between members for common and collective benefit. The strategy reflects WOF’s ambition to lead the future for winter sport. Building on the winter DNA, the approach strengthens the relevance and long-term sustainability of winter sports within the Olympic Movement.
The participants received important updates from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Utah 2034 on plans for the Olympic Winter Games, having discussed the forthcoming edition with the Alpes 2030 team during a recent meeting of the WOF Coordination Committee (COCOM).
