Coaching
One of the mandatory requirements of the MPS is the implementation of a structured coach education system with a minimum of two coaching levels. To assist MNAs with this, the IIHF created new IIHF Coach Education Framework, presented by Kalle Väliäho, IIHF Development Manager for Europe & Africa. The IIHF Coach Education Framework (CEF) is built upon the IIHF Coach Development Framework, which identifies the core competencies essential for high-quality coaching. These core competencies form the foundation of the IIHF CEF and represent a comprehensive combination of capabilities, abilities, knowledge, and skills required for effective coach development.
The framework defines five core competencies, which together constitute essential coaching knowledge. This knowledge is structured across three key dimensions: interpersonal, intrapersonal, and professional knowledge, ensuring that coaches are not only technically competent but also effective communicators, reflective practitioners, and ethical leaders within the sport.
